Most FAQ: How do you manage to be involved in so many different things?
How do I work my professional job, keep up with the day-to-day routine of life, write papers, work on a book, research and continue learning about countering violent extremism (CVE) / preventing violent extremism (PVE) along with being with my husband, children, grandchildren, and dog? I’m not sure how it all gets my attention - but somehow it does!
Why did you join the SocialWorkHUB?
I joined The SocialWorkHUB because I am attracted to its ethos – the “why” of what it does: inclusion and sharing knowledge and information. It works well with my values of restorative practice – working with people and not doing to them. This social discipline model is attractive to me as it is relational and builds on establishing rapport and trust with others to facilitate positive change. And we must believe in the ability of and power of change.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about safeguarding children and young people and helping them achieve their potential in whatever way possible. I've been a social worker for around 25 years and have worked with children and their families throughout my career in many areas of need.
What was the best decision you have made?
The best decision I ever made was to follow my instincts and take up a career in social work. It has been rewarding, challenging, and life-changing. It has brought me sadness and joy, tears and laughter. And above all, it's given me some great connections with people all over the world as I have traveled with my work and found like-minded souls doing their best work!
