Introduction

The First Steps of Our Co-working Space

The evolution of the idea happened both extremely fast and also slow, depending on whom you ask. Quite quickly, our team moved to a brand-new project office of about 300 square meters. Despite our visitors remaining convinced this was the co-working space we wouldn’t stop talking about, we knew a much bigger space was waiting for us.

The First Steps of Our Co-working Space

If you told us a year ago that in 2019, we would be running one of the largest co-working spaces in Vienna, we'd probably have laughed. It’s not that we wouldn’t have believed you, it’s that we wouldn’t have believed how quickly a small idea evolved into a large project. This is precisely the story of the SocialWorkHUB’s co-working space at the Franz-Josefs Bahnhof.

Space matters

The concept of co-working isn’t new to us. Although we didn’t have a physical office where people could connect in person, connecting people and sharing our knowledge and expertise with them has always been a vital function of the SocialWorkHUB. Through services such as our Help Desk and consulting, we supported organizations and enabled them to reach their goals and solve significant problems. So, when the opportunity for a physical HUB office reached its founder, Zmary, it was only natural for him to pursue it.

3.800 SquareMeters

But our patience was tested. Nothing about the project was certain. Our days were filled with ups and downs, including repeated changes to our plans. Team members came and went with those who had the patience and vision choosing to stay.

The day we moved into our 3,800 m2 space was an exciting and terrifying one. As we walked in, we were blinded by large corporate cubicles that covered the office floor. That’s when we realized that the challenge had only just begun. Over the next months, our growing team became construction workers, engineers, movers and event producers all at once. As the space began to form its shape, new partners joined the SocialWorkHUB, realizing the HUB's vast potential. Community members such as HousingForAll, TedX Vienna, and Danachda joined while more organizations steadily followed.

Night and day

We are thrilled to say we are planning our Grand Opening in which hundreds of people will be invited to see the co-working space for the first time. Most of them won’t believe that this now modern and welcoming space was once a characterless, bland corporate office. We do know that the HUB’s transformation is incredible, but we also know it’s still incomplete. Our dedicated team is committed to working hard, night and day, to develop a broad and productive social entrepreneurship ecosystem.
